In partnership with the Interdisciplinary
Health Sciences Institute, University of Illinois Extension hosted an educational
event on brain health and aging research on Thursday, October 10, 2019.
This event featured a presentation by Neal Cohen, PhD, co-director of the Center for Brain Plasticity and Director of the Center for Nutrition, Learning, and Memory (CNLM), University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Through his presentation, participants can learn about the hippocampal memory system, how neuroimaging systems can show quantifiable changes in the brain that can lead to improved memory outcomes.
The second session of the program featured Wits Workout, a 24-session facilitator’s guide designed for leaders to conduct their own brain health classes. This educational model serves a need in increasing socialization/reducing isolation, and promoting intellectual engagement among older adults, all of which complement current aging brain health research.
