To help universities manage the COVID-19 pandemic on their campuses, researchers at the University of Illinois developed the Safer Illinois app to support the important strategy of contact tracing. How did developers of the app account for privacy concerns and attempt to tailor the app to serve a particular community’s well-being? How transferable is this technology and approach develop at the U of I to countries of the European Union, where GDPR legislation has established new standards for managing digital innovation with privacy concerns?
On Friday, September 25, the European Union Center hosted a virtual panel discussion with Peter Fatelnig, Minister-Counsellor for Digital Economy Policies at the Delegation of the European Union to the United States; Sanjay Patel, Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Sony Faculty Scholar, and Director of Alchemy, University of Illinois; and William Sullivan, Professor and Chair of Landscape Architecture, Director of Rokwire, University of Illinois. The panel was moderated by Jacob Bowers, Associate Professor of Political Science.
The morning of Wednesday 8 January, we updated the look and feel of Kaltura videos by moving from Player 2 to Player 7. The new player has a cleaner look, some improvements to controls, and a new transcript viewer. Also thanks to the upgrade we can now allow owners and co-editors of videos with two feeds to download *both* recordings from the mediaspace website.
As of the upgrade and going forward all videos play on mediaspace in the new player. Also since the upgrade any video you embed in Canvas or elsewhere, with the built-in tools in Canvas or the embed code from mediaspace, will play with the new player. However, any videos embedded anywhere before the update will continue to play in Player 2.
To take advantage of the new player, and use a fully-supported player, we urge you to re-embed videos in Canvas or elsewhere, retracing the steps you took the first time.
