Title: Group 49 (Science): Freaky Planets and Bizarre Worlds
Body:
Our group will focus on worlds that defy our own reality. We will investigate planets that have exotic weather systems, strange material makeup, weird orbits, and gravitational anomalies. Our focus will primarily be on PSR J1719-1438 b, the planet completely made of diamond, HD 189733b, the planet that rains glass, COROT-7b, the molten planet, Gliese 1214b, the waterworld, and WASP-18b, the doomed planet. All these are in the science category, not pseudoscience, as all these worlds have been established by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) and were predicted to have these specific characteristics.
Our topic relates to class as it explores the idea of the variability of exoplanets out in the universe. We will be looking into worlds that have high chances of sustaining life due to their bizarre and unique nature, and some worlds that seem to prevent it from the same reasoning. In the Drake equation, n_e is the average number of habitable planets per star and this variable is the one which our topic will be affecting the most.
