Crucially, faculty must determine if their learning objectives are still valid, and if assessments should be secured against GenAI or redesigned to allow students to "cognitively offload" tasks. Beyond security, true academic integrity involves educating students by treating ethical transgressions as developmental "errors" and leveraging them as "teachable moments" rather than simply resorting to punishment. This necessitates integrating ethical instruction, such as the Giving Voice to Values curriculum, throughout the coursework. The conversation highlights the struggle to apply these principles effectively, particularly when dealing with large student populations and institutional systems that may inadvertently discourage the pursuit of these teachable moments.
