In late October, 2018, West Antarctica’s Pine Island Glacier released about 300 square kilometers (100 square miles) of ice. The largest iceberg, B46, was 226 square kilometers. With topography mapped by satellite and supercomputer in the REMA project, the AVL team animated the calving event centered around November 2018
