Equitable and Effective K-12 CS Education: Challenges, Opportunities, and New Directions
This session will help orient teachers, administrators, and policymakers to the current landscape of research in K-12 CS education. We will focus on the pressing issue of equity, and discuss both enduring challenges as well as encouraging signs of progress towards providing more equitable and transformative CS education for all learners. We will ground our discussion in specific lessons drawn from our work in California and Illinois about challenges as well as successes related to student access and participation, CS teacher quality, curriculum and knowledge, and school accountability. We’ll also provide concrete resources for stakeholders looking to expand CS in their own K-12 and out of school spaces.
