A reading and conversation with magical realist author Anya Johanna DeNiro.
Anya Johanna DeNiro
is a fantasy and science fiction writer based in Minnesota. She has written two
collections, Skinny Dipping in the Lake of the Dead and Tyrannia and
Other Renditions both published by Small Beer Press. She has also
published numerous short stories that have been featured in Asimov’s, Strange
Horizons, Tor, Persistent Visions, and many other anthologies, collections, and
blogs. She is also the author of the novella City
of A Thousand Feelings by publisher Aqueduct Press (2020), which is
about the friendship between two trans women in a world of violence and magic.
She has also created video games and written poems. Anya is dedicated to
writing stories that center trans women by creating complex and powerful
characters that are not simply used as tropes. She aims to tell stories in
which trans people can see their authentic selves reflected in the
