The Zhang Group at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign's Department of Materials Science and Engineering studies the interfacial science of materials with the goal of understanding the fundamental atomic and molecular scale processes at interfaces, such as charge storage; electrochemical transformation; and catalysis. The group also aims to create societal solutions in the areas of energy conversion and storage, information technology and healthcare.

The Zhang Group's research is highly interdisciplinary, spanning over areas of materials science and engineering, physical chemistry, condensed matter physics, and chemical and electrical engineering. The team is always looking for motivated graduate students, postdocs and undergrads to join them.
