Chat transcript:
00:12:23 Matt Beth: Welcome everyone, thanks for coming! As usual, Lindsey has some content prepared but we hope this will be interactive. Feel free to type or hop on the mic at any time. I’ll try to respond to chat and also may add in links or information to augment what Lindsey is saying.
00:12:45 Matt Beth: Hi Penny! Welcome!!!
00:13:08 Matt Beth: The slides again for those just joining https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1p8smGqAc6TaMpzpYGY4t6wJUqbIbARFn/edit#slide=id.p1
00:13:45 Matt Beth: So again, TEAMS is available on the web but most of us prefer the desktop app
00:14:08 Matt Beth: If you have an iSchool machine, it should be on there
00:14:34 Matt Beth: There’s also a mobile app which comes in handy if you’re away from your computer.
00:16:04 Matt Beth: Being remote, TEAMS is my “office”. It’s how I communicate with our GAs on one channel. We have a chat for all IT and another for PUMA which is Jen, Lindsey and I (formerly Whitney who’s now focusing on other things).
00:16:33 Matt Beth: We still have PLENTY of email but this augments and in some ways replaces some of the emails
00:16:56 Matt Beth: The Dings can be annoying so the notifications are important!!!
00:17:09 Linda Smith: Ok, that's helpful
00:18:01 Matt Beth: We mostly use the chat BUT with a click, you can add the voice/video, app share
00:21:56 Matt Beth: And even adhoc, TEAMS can replace Lync/Skype for business chat. So I have a “chat” with Karla if we need a quick communication
00:22:26 Matt Beth: We also used it for a search committee I was on
00:25:33 Matt Beth: I’ll also put a plug in for the personal (built in) chat you can practice or store quick things for reference
00:25:58 Matt Beth: Another plug for the GIFs that are essential!!!
00:26:28 Matt Beth: Lindsey’s modest but her gif game is strong (as is Jen’s)
00:27:08 Matt Beth: You’d think the younger set GAs would be more adept at the gifs but us old timers are WAY better fwiw
00:27:28 Matt Beth: I didn’t get that memo…
00:27:33 Jen Anderson: lol
00:27:42 Jen Anderson: Give yourself some credit, Matt. <3
00:30:15 Matt Beth: With these systems being integrated, I do find it handy that even with office etc., you can find information about who people are, their department etc.
00:32:15 Peggy Regan: If I create a team, say for Academic Affairs and make it private, does it show up for anyone to see the team or will it only show up for those people that are added?
00:33:44 Matt Beth: In use, a lot of this is real time but I also reference back (scroll or search) for things all the time (Eg how did this Canvas thing we were talking about work that we talked about weeks ago)
00:34:24 Matt Beth: With what Lindsey’s showing is important with our GA team chat. We could be talking about printers, AV and another issue all at the same time
00:35:25 Matt Beth: Just like many of use the zoom option in outlook
00:35:35 Matt Beth: Teams is an option there too
00:37:29 Jen Anderson: Teams has A LOT of options
00:40:24 Michael: I have to run. Hope everyone has a great afternoon!
00:41:28 Matt Beth: https://findwebhosting.web.illinois.edu
00:42:03 Matt Beth: The above is useful for helping identify which (of the many) types of webhosting available
00:42:24 Matt Beth: She was proud of that GIF, we talked about in TEAMS
00:54:05 Penny Ames: None for now. Thank you!
00:55:33 Matt Beth: Overall, I think our transition has gone extremely well. There are limitations Lindsey is mentioning. We’re still learning/adjusting ourselves
00:56:03 Matt Beth: And miss our full admin access and the open source nature of Moodle
00:57:19 Matt Beth: We’re hoping parts (rosters etc.) are improved over time
00:57:51 Matt Beth: There are things we can learn and improve on (our template, process for setting up courses etc.)
00:58:14 Matt Beth: And campus settings along with general improvements to the product
00:58:38 Matt Beth: Thanks for coming everybody!
00:59:10 Linda Smith: good to know
00:59:12 Matt Beth: We appreciate you coming and please do reach out if you have questions or need assistance!!!
01:00:00 Linda Smith: Thanks
01:00:02 Peggy Regan: Thank you Lindsey and Matt for all the information!
01:00:07 Matt Beth: Bye everyone!
