Land-grant institutions have a responsibility to shape a more
just and inclusive future. These institutions, which were built in part
through the dispossession of Indigenous lands, carry a moral and ethical
obligation to expand access and support for Native American students,
and to do so in ways that honor sovereignty, self-determination, and
cultural continuity. This noontime presentation will examine both
historical and contemporary Native perspectives on higher education,
with a focus on land-grant institutions broadly and the University of
Illinois specifically.
