Surprised by How Motivating Group Work is for Students

Jim Miller (NRES) discusses the importance of moving away from straight lecture toward a more discussion and participation format. His students strongly agree. End of semester feedback showed that being able to learn together through more group based activity, in a classroom that supported these efforts, led to better learning outcomes and higher levels of student satisfaction.
