Molly Goldstein (Industrial and Enterprise Systems Engineering) describes how deeply engaged her students are in the active learning classrooms she has taught in at the Campus Instructional Facility (CIF). The intentional design of these classrooms creates a very different kind of learning experience as students sit together at tables where they can see and talk to one another while working through complex problems. Learning achievement gains are also higher as students perform better and retain information longer. Active learning classrooms are important for attracting and keeping talented students and faculty at Illinois.
