Many students (in particular those needing the most help) never take advantage of office hours, and faculty often consider them a waste of time as they sit in their offices with no one showing up. Paul Diehl identifies six strategies for making office hours more productive, and in the process ways to enhance student learning.
Presenter Bio
Paul F. Diehl is Henning Larsen Professor Emeritus of Political Science and the Founding Director of four different units related to teaching at three different universities. He has received ten awards for his teaching, including the LAS Dean’s Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching and the University of Illinois Campus Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching, as well as being a four-time winner of the Clarence Berdahl Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Instruction. He is the recipient of the inaugural award for teaching and mentoring given by the International Studies Association-Midwest.
