In September’s session, Sandi Caldrone introduced the Illinois Research Data Service (RDS), which supports researchers in managing, sharing, and preserving their data. RDS helps with data management planning (including grant-related reviews), organization and documentation (naming conventions, README files, codebooks), and publication/preservation through the Illinois Data Bank, a CoreTrust Seal-certified open access repository that provides DOIs and long-term curation. They also guide researchers handling sensitive or restricted data, referring to specialists like the privacy team or directing them to appropriate repositories. Services include workshops, consultations, templates, and the Data Nudge newsletter, all designed to make research data more accessible, usable, and sustainable across disciplines.
