Teaching Special Seminar - Anjali Agrawal, "Demystifying Discrete: Crafting a Course in Discrete Mathematics"

Abstract: 
"Do we have to learn proofs?" – a question that Discrete Math instructors receive time and time again from students. In this talk, I will discuss the considerations and techniques that went into my version of Discrete Math. This will range from motivating the material in lectures, to designing scaffolded homework assignments, to implementing exam corrections for the first time. Join me in exploring the practical strategies employed to make Discrete Math an engaging and approachable learning experience.

Bio:
I received my MS in Computer Science at the University of Washington, where I also received my BS in Computer Science and BA in Mathematics. I have served as the instructor of record for one year and as a Teaching Assistant for three years, spanning courses in CS Theory, Data Structures, and Introductory Programming. My passion lies in integrating discovery-based learning methods into CS courses, with the goal of cultivating curiosity and critical thinking among students.
