Session brief:
In this talk Lucian will be discussing the Birmingham City University rollout of the Cadmus online assessment environment. The Cadmus environment is designed to manage the process of engaging students early with their written, coursework based assessments and create a supportive environment where the risk of using AI is mitigated by visible engagement by students and direction from tutors. Automatic nudges and a reduction in the faculty’s workloads are important features of the environment. A significant scale pilot has shown average increases in student submission rates between 3 and 12%, impacting currently over 1,700 students. Pass rates have increased on average by 4.6%. Cadmus saves approx. 52 hours of Academic Assessment Management/course, freeing up significant staff time, when cost savings are essential. Based on the initial findings, staff and student feedback and with significant administration hours savings impact expected, the Cadmus environment will be rolled out widely at Birmingham City University in readiness for the September 2025 start of the new academic year.
