For the past several years, we have developed and implemented a robust
data pipeline for tracking Zoom attendance in synchronous online courses
through a fully operational dashboard where instructors and learning
designers can monitor weekly attendance for live class sessions. A key
element of our approach is the integration of session details from a
project management tool (Asana in our case) into our SQL environment.
This integration allows for seamless coordination between session
planning and attendance tracking, a process that could be adapted to
other systems for project management or metadata. In this presentation,
we will discuss the challenges we faced during development, including
data synchronization, workflow automation, and platform integration, and
what we learned along the way. We will also highlight how instructors,
learning designers, and administrators are using this data to identify
the most popular session times and investigate reasons for low
attendance by triangulating it with course work. Attendees will walk
away with practical insights applicable to building similar pipelines
and leveraging data to enhance virtual learning experiences.
