AACSB Online Learning Affinity Group Third Thursday webinar: Online Education after COVID: Comparative Perspectives of Professors and Students

This presentation summarizes a series of recent studies regarding online education which focus on the specific challenges of online lectures, rehearsal/practice activities, labs, and testing across an array of situational contexts and virtual modality venues (F2F, hybrid, synchronous, synchronous and asynchronous). The presentation focuses on:

• Comparisons of student and faculty perceptions highlighting where they differ and why
• Findings that are in contrast to pre-COVID and during-COVID findings to get a better idea of how capacities and perceptions have shifted
• A series of practical recommendations regarding best modality choices and best teaching practices in (1) online lectures, (2) rehearsal/practice activities, (3) labs, and (4) testing as well as a listing of the concomitant challenges in implementing best practices
• Recommendations regarding enhancing DEI sensitivities in online courses

Bio

Montgomery Van Wart is a professor in the Department of Public Administration at California State University, San Bernardino. He served as Chair of his department and Dean of the College of Business and Public Administration. He has authored eleven books including Dynamics of Leadership, Leadership in Public Organizations, Administrative Leadership in the Public Sector (with Dicke), and Human Resource Management in Public Service (with Berman, Bowman, and West. He has over 150 publications of which about 30 are about teaching and online contexts. Recent research on online education has been funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). He has been a distinguished visiting professor at KU Leuven, the University of Hong Kong, Rutgers, and the University of Ireland.
