Infrastructure Technology Resources Consortium (ITRC) Seminar Series on Resilience and Sustainability of Urban Transportation Infrastructure
Seminar #12 Building Information Modeling (BIM) for Transportation Infrastructures: Building Information Modeling (BIM) for managing infrastructure has been widely used in the commercial vertical industry, however, its use in the public transportation infrastructure has been limited due to the lack of standardization. To overcome this challenge, significant research through NCHRP and FHWA has been done leading into national initiatives such as pooled fund projects and AASHTO resolution to adopt Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) as the schema for BIM. This presentation will discuss the ongoing efforts for the adoption of BIM for transportation infrastructure as a life cycle management strategy. Also, the benefits of BIM in design, fabrication, construction, and asset management will be discussed.
