Charles “Charlie” Meyerson arrived at the University of Illinois in the fall of 1973, already knowing that he wanted to study journalism. He lived in Allen Hall and the Unit One community for his freshman and sophomore years, and considers it a “seminal” part of his college experience. Other than Unit One classes and activities, Charlie found a home at WPGU, the student radio station, which led him to his lengthy career as a radio journalist. In this interview, he discusses his early life, first interests in journalism and media, student life at U of I in the early-to-mid 1970s, Unit One/Allen Hall, WPGU, and the great effect that the University of Illinois has had on his life.
