This session provided an overview of practical strategies to shift
scheduled face-to-face class sessions to a remote delivery format when faculty
must cancel class, whether due to illness, conference travel, family
emergencies, or special events such as Election Day. We also discussed policies adopted by some institutions, which recommend faculty to prepare for
remote asynchronous instructional delivery on Election Day, encouraging active
student civic engagement. We reviewed best practices for asynchronous
instruction to ensure that instruction is not interrupted even when a scheduled
class cannot proceed as planned.
