Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI) is a U.S. Department of Education (DOE) requirement and needs to be included in all courses for Title IV funds (including federal financial aid) to be used as payment for the course. The DOE recognizes these interactions as an essential part of the learning process, but when a course is provided online or in a hybrid mode of delivery, how to meet RSI requirements may become less clear. We’ll explore what a credit hour is, what the difference between an online and correspondence course is, and how to meet RSI requirements in a course that is delivered online or through other forms of distance education. Be prepared to interact during this session, because what would a session on RSI be, without including a little RSI?
