Title: Utilizing AWS cloud computing to mine public single-cell data for signatures of cellular senescence
Presenter: Mark A. Sanborn, PhD Candidate, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics, Division of Cardiology, Department of Bioengineering, University of Illinois College of Medicine.
Description: Cellular senescence contributes to aging and age-associated diseases, but in vivo cellular senescence remains broadly uncharacterized. Cellular senescence is an individual cell phenomenon, therefore, methods to characterize in vivo cellular senescence must have single-cell resolution. Single-cell transcriptomics is a viable tool for studying cellular senescence, but the data require large amounts of storage and computational bandwidth to analyze. The EC2 cloud computing provided by AWS along with S3 storage are invaluable tools for this research. Ultimately, these analyses will provide molecular targets and strategies to extend to extend health span.
