Title Next Generation Web Accessibility Evaluation Tools at Illinois Part 1
Description The workshop will demonstrate the Functional Accessibility Evaluator (FAE) 2.0 and the AInspector Sidebar add-on to the Firefox browser to evaluate the accessibility of dynamically generated web content. The tools use the open source OpenAjax Accessibility Alliance evaluation library and rulesets designed to evaluate websites compliance with W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 Level A and AA conformance. The tools support the use of W3C Accessible Rich Internet Accessibility (ARIA) 1.0 Specification and HTML 5 accessibility features techniques for achieving WCAG Compliance. FAE 2.0 is a server-based tool to evaluate and report on the accessibility of entire websites and will replace FAE 1.1 later this summer. AInspector Sidebar for Firefox allows current web page to be evaluated for accessibility allowing it to be used behind password protected websites and it also provides several different highlighting options to identify the accessibility features of specific elements on a page. The presentation is designed to be interactive and people who have tried the tools are encourages to come and provide feedback on their experience using the tools and bring their suggestions on what would make the tools more useful to them. DRES would like to work with developers working on new websites this summer to help them design into their websites and templates WCAG 2.0 compliance. Contact Jon Gunderson at jongund@illinois.edu.
